Pati Valley 2 days Trek Overview
Pati Viewpoint and Funil River Descent
Day 1
Distance: 11 km
Starting Altitude: 1080 m
Highest Point: 1340 m
Lowest Point: 920 m
The adventure begins early in the morning with a 2-hour drive from Lençóis to the village of Guiné: the gateway to the paradise of Pati Valley. This is where the hike starts, with a 30-minute uphill climb leading to the Aleixo viewpoint, where the grandeur of the journey ahead starts to unfold.
From there, we cross the plateau known as Gerais do Rio Preto: a vast, open landscape separating Guiné from the heart of the valley. For about an hour, we walk through vibrant nature and cinematic scenery.
We then reach the iconic Pati Valley viewpoint, offering a breathtaking panoramic view over the entire valley. It's the perfect spot for a break: time to snack, hydrate, and recharge for what’s ahead.
After the break, we descend the steep “Rampa” trail into the bottom of the valley and continue through winding paths until we reach the Funis River. This section is a real adventure. You may need to use your hands for balance and experience the famous “escalaminhada” (scrambling), a true physical and mental immersion.
After about 30 minutes of navigating this wild terrain, we arrive at the main waterfall: Cachoeira do Funil, an irresistible invitation for a refreshing swim in clean, revitalizing waters.
The first day ends with a short walk to a local family’s house, where we’ll spend the night. It’s a simple and welcoming environment, close to nature and lulled by the sound of the river. It is the perfect place to rest and recharge.

Cachoeirão from Above
Day 2
Distance: 16 km
Starting Altitude: 920 m
Highest Point: 1280 m
Lowest Point: 820 m
The second day begins with a hearty breakfast to fuel the toughest climb of the trek: the Fenda da Prefeitura. The uphill trail takes about two hours and offers stunning views that make the effort worthwhile.
Along the way, we reach the first viewpoint with glimpses of what’s to come. A little further ahead is the famous Pedra do Jacaré. It is a striking rock formation that appears to float in the air, offering a final jaw-dropping view of the Morro do Castelo from a new perspective.
We then continue on the trail for about another hour until we reach the highlight of the journey: the majestic Cachoeirão from above. Its multiple waterfalls plunge down 270 meters into the valley below. A natural spectacle that leaves you speechless.
You’ll take in the scene from two privileged viewpoints:
-To the left, Pedra da Tartaruga (Turtle Rock), a sharp rock seemingly suspended over the void;
-To the right, a large stone slab hanging over the abyss, completing this surreal landscape.
After soaking in the views, we head to the natural pool of the Cachoeirão: the perfect place for lunch and a refreshing swim to cool off from the valley heat.
But the adventure doesn’t end there: we begin the return hike across the highlands, a 3-hour journey back to the Aleixo viewpoint. From there, it’s another 30-minute descent to the car and the ride back to Lençóis, with your heart and mind filled with unforgettable memories.
Important Information: During the dry season, the Cachoeirão and its natural pool are almost dry, but even so, the view of the valley below and the surrounding cliffs remains unforgettable.
