Sossego Waterfall is considered one of the most stunning waterfalls accessible on foot from Lençóis. The Sossego trek is a true adventure that, in just a few hours, reveals diverse and surprising landscapes: native forest, rocky slabs covered in bromeliads and cacti, and sections where we follow the riverbed, climbing rocks and hopping from stone to stone.
This trekking Sossego tour is both challenging and rewarding—ideal for those seeking direct contact with the wild nature of Chapada Diamantina and looking to experience something intense, authentic, and unforgettable.
Sossego Hike Overview
We start the Sossego Waterfall tour early in the morning, leaving the agency around 8 AM—before the sun gets too hot. After a quick stop in the center of Lençóis to buy our picnic supplies, we head to the trailhead.
The hike begins over wide stone slabs surrounded by bromeliads, cacti, orchids, and typical Chapada Diamantina shrubland. After about an hour, we reach the river and the landscape changes dramatically. We enter the Sossego Canyon, where the real adventure begins walking directly through the riverbed, leaping between stones, and climbing small boulders.
This section is more demanding, requiring balance, endurance, and a spirit of adventure. But every step is worth it: after about an hour navigating the canyon, the majestic veil of Sossego Waterfall appears, hidden between towering cliffs, an almost secret sanctuary.
The reward? A refreshing swim in the cold waters, with the option to swim behind the waterfall, explore its base, or even climb to a nearby viewpoint for a unique and unforgettable perspective of the falls.
On the way back, we follow the riverbed downstream, passing by Poço do Ribeirão de Cima and finally stopping at the famous Ribeirão do Meio, a natural 100-meter stone waterslide. One last swim closes the day before returning to Lençóis.
The Sossego trek is perfect for those seeking an authentic and intense connection with Chapada Diamantina’s wild nature. A rewarding challenge that ends with one of the most breathtaking views in the region.
