Pati Valley TrekKING Overview
Pati Viewpoint and Funil River Descent
Day 1
Distance: 11 km
Starting Altitude: 1080 m
Highest Point: 1340 m
Lowest Point: 920 m
Our journey begins early, with a scenic two-hour drive from Lençóis to the charming village of Guiné — the gateway to the legendary Pati Valley trail.
The adventure kicks off with a gentle 30-minute ascent to the Aleixo Viewpoint, where the first panoramic view of the mountains reveals the grandeur of what lies ahead.
From there, we cross the famous Gerais do Rio Preto — vast, windswept highlands where golden grasses and native plants create a stunning contrast against the endless blue sky. After about an hour, we reach the breathtaking Pati Viewpoint, a perfect place to pause, breathe, and soak in the sweeping vista of the valley below.
As we begin our descent into the valley, the landscape transforms dramatically — from open plateaus to lush green forest. A short stretch along the Funis River brings a touch of adventure, with rock-hopping, balancing, and small climbs that make every step part of the fun.
Our reward awaits: a refreshing dip beneath the cascading waters of Cachoeira do Funil, a hidden paradise embraced by towering green cliffs.
After this perfect moment of rest, a final 30-minute walk leads us to the welcoming home of a local family. Here, surrounded by the sounds of the river and the warmth of Chapada hospitality, we spend our first night in the heart of the valley.

Castle Mountain
Day 2
Distance: 8 km
Starting Altitude: 920 m
Highest Point: 1390 m
Lowest Point: 920 m
After a delicious breakfast, we set off toward one of the most iconic landmarks in the Vale do Pati: Morro do Castelo — a must-see highlight of the Chapada Diamantina trekking experience.
The ascent takes about an hour and a half, following shaded forest paths lined with tree roots and rocky steps that make the climb both exciting and rewarding.
At the summit, a breathtaking 360° panorama opens up across the heart of Chapada Diamantina — endless valleys, giant canyons, and majestic mountain ridges stretching into the horizon.
We follow the plateau’s ridge to reach a massive balancing rock — the perfect spot for a picnic with sweeping views over the Calixto Valley and its distant waterfall.
After soaking in this unforgettable moment, we descend back into the valley, collect our gear, and continue on to another welcoming local home, where we’ll spend our second night.
Dinner is another authentic experience — a comforting, wood-fired home-cooked meal prepared with care by our hosts, ending the day with warmth, flavor, and true Pati Valley hospitality.

Cachoeirão from Above
Day 3
Distance: 16 km
Starting Altitude: 920 m
Highest Point: 1280 m
Lowest Point: 820 m
Our final day in the Vale do Pati trek begins early — and promises the most thrilling adventure yet.
We climb through the Fenda da Prefeitura, a narrow rocky passage that leads to two breathtaking viewpoints. The first is Pedra do Jacaré, offering a stunning new perspective on Morro do Castelo. From there, we continue to one of the trek’s ultimate highlights: the Cachoeirão from above.
From the edge of the cliff, we gaze down on a dozen of waterfalls cascading nearly 300 meters into a vast canyon — a view that defines the magic of Chapada Diamantina National Park.
Depending on the season, the falls may thunder with water or shrink to delicate ribbons, but the scenery remains surreal — a true postcard view.
We take time for photos at iconic spots like Pedra da Tartaruga and a suspended rock slab that seems to float above the abyss. Then we descend to the natural pool of Cachoeirão for lunch and a refreshing swim — the perfect finale to three unforgettable days of hiking.
Our return route takes us once more through the Gerais do Rio Preto, with a last panoramic stop at Aleixo Viewpoint before descending into Guiné village, where our transport awaits to take us back to Lençóis.
Important Note: During the dry season, the Cachoeirão waterfall and its natural pool may run low or dry, but the sweeping views over the valley and cliffs remain absolutely unforgettable.
