Buracão Tour
overview
The journey to Buracão Waterfall begins bright and early at 6 AM to make the most of the day. With a total of 7 hours on the road, starting early ensures plenty of time to enjoy the most captivating waterfall in Chapada Diamantina!
After a 2-hour drive, we stop for breakfast in the charming historic town of Mucugê, known for its picturesque stone architecture. During this stop, guests can purchase their picnic lunches for Buracão before continuing on a 1.5-hour drive to the start of the trail.
Upon arriving at the entrance of Buracão Municipal Park in Ibicoara, we meet our local guide. This guide, who works with our agency and is recognized by the local municipality, will lead us along the riverbank trail. Along the way, we admire the Orchid Waterfall before reaching the viewpoint that unveils the breathtaking view of Buracão from above.
The sight is truly unforgettable. The majestic 85-meter waterfall plunges into a pool surrounded by steep cliffs, earning it its name: "The Big Hole." For those seeking extra adventure, a local company offers rappelling down into the basin below (optional and not included in the tour).
Continuing our journey, we descend into the canyon and pass the mystical Recanto Verde Waterfall, which bursts from holes high in the cliffs. At the entrance to Buracão Gorge, park staff provide us with life jackets. We now enter Buracão Canyon, swimming upstream through the narrow gorge. As we round a bend, the incredible sight of Buracão Waterfall comes into full view in all its glory.
This spot is a photographer's dream, especially for those with waterproof cameras. You can even pass behind the curtain of water and experience the exhilarating sensation of being within the heart of a giant waterfall.
After soaking in this awe-inspiring experience, we begin the hike back to the car. Following an hour-long walk and a 3.5-hour drive, we finally return to Lençóis, weary but filled by the magnificence of the experience. The group may choose to stop for dinner at a restaurant along the way to celebrate the adventure together.
